Bethesda has announced that it is delaying both Starfield and Redfall to the first half of 2023. It needs more time for a polished launch.

This summer showcase better have some surprises. Nothing can fill the hole a game like Star Field leaves, but they better have something to help pacify their fans.

I will never be mad at any studio for delaying their games, even when I'm personally invested and hyped. I'm tired of games being shipped broken, and slowly patched into decency years after.
However, no one can deny that this is another massive L for the Xbox team. They can wax poetic all they want about a healthy work-life balance, anti-crunch culture, and their "hands free" approach, but if all that equates to them having a lower output with 30 studios than they had with just 5, then they should have just continued outsourcing their exclusives to 3rd party. At least they were good at that shit.

So you want them to force the teams to release the games? They are giving them enough budget & time. NOW if these games like avowed, starfield, hellblade 2 comes out & are not good, sure thats L. But for now, we cannot comment. Let these studios work & i m sure we will see some of the games' gameplay in a month.

No my dude, I'm saying the opposite.
Delays are good, releasing broken/unfinished games is bad. So even though I'm hyped for Starfield, I don't mind the delay, hell I'll be fine with another delay if that's what they need.
What I'm saying is that Xbox needs to get it's shit together, the hands off approach is obviously not working out for them. Every year they keep relying on that one BIG exclusive in November, and almost every time it bites them in the ass. Since they don't actually try to manage their studios, they have no idea the state their games are in, and they constantly end up either delaying the games, or launching them broken, or both.

People are saying xbox looking grim but they forget that we've still got Microsoft Solitaire on pc gamepass!!!
KingArt
We cannot get mad about the game's delay or expect MS to have another banger ready just in case Starfield doesn't work out. These things happen, and in the end, we will have better games in starfield & RedFall. This stuff is pretty normal in the gaming industry, & I want starfield to cook at least 6 more months in the oven so we get a polished experience.
QuackShot
A sensible take on the subject.

This really sucks, but everything gets delayed nowadays. Better they take their time and make this the biggest Bethesda game ever.
What they have to do now to salvage the year is to secure 2-3 big games day one for gamepass, thats their only play I think.
TimTheSorcerer
Well, it is what it is, and of course Microsoft Gaming is aware of the shortcoming of their first parties this year, so they probably gonna make up for it with some surprise gamepass drops , to ensure we are enticed to keep gamepass around, I'm payed up till 2025 so I'll be around no matter what, and it's still a great service, even without first party, 2023 is gonna be stacked though, but probably they will space out the games over the next two years. And my backlog is absurd, so I really don't mind the delay that much.
PurpleTreeFrog
Well, no getting past that this is pretty shit.
Im all for delaying a game if it needs it to be better but this does obviously mean that the only thing Microsoft are gonna be putting on Gamepass this year is Deathloop (which I am still looking forward to).
The June 12th show needs to be orgasmically good and maybe have some surprise releases for 2022 to make up for this in terms of public image.
I guess this gives me more time to work on my backlog at least.

So Xbox's 2022 is looking pretty dire then. Ultimately want Starfield to be good so delay it instead of pushing a crap/broken game but what about the rest of Xbox's output this year?
Just Forza?
Gangsta_Red
I'm sick of Forza carrying the weight of Xbox. It seems whenever Xbox doesn't have anything, they plug in a Forza game to fill in that gap.
What's the point of MS buying all these studios when they can't even get their schedule sorted out for consistent releases?
I understand development troubles and all, but maybe there needs to be a serious change on how games are made so that we won't have delays for every major game announced.
MS better have an atomic bomb of a show because they already have this strike against them going in.
Gangsta_Red
This really sucks and once again shines a light on this industry and it's inability to release a game on time
